GARDASIL
The Ball State Women's Center will administer the vaccine, GARDASIL, to students who would like the vaccine. GARDASIL is a vaccine against certain types of HPV (human papillomavirus). It is designed to prevent HPV types 6, 11, 16 and 18. HPV types 6 and 11 cause 90% of genital warts cases and HPV types 16 and 18 cause 70% of cervical cancer cases. If you would like to receive Gardasil, please follow the instructions below.

First, find out if your insurance will cover the vaccine. There is an 800 number on the back of your card.

If your insurance will cover the vaccine, then call the Women's Center at 285-8035 and let them know you would like to get the vaccine. They will call a local pharmacy to have it prescribed there. Next you will set an appointment for your first injection. Once you pick up the vaccine from the pharmacy, you will bring it to your appointment and the Women's Center will give it to you.

The vaccine is a total of three shots over the course of six months. After the first shot you will need to make another appointment in two months. At the next appointment, you will need to go to the pharmacy again to pick up the vaccine. Then you will make another appointment in four months.

If your insurance does not cover the vaccine you have two options.

  1. You can put it on your bursars account or pay cash or check. Each shot will cost $150 and you need a total of three shots. In order for the vaccine to work, you need to get all three shots.
  2. If you can not afford the vaccine, call the Women's Center and let them know that you can not afford it but would like to get the vaccine. They will see if you are eligible for the patient assistance program. You would make an appointment and the day of the appointment they will call to get you on the patient assistance program. It will take about 20 to 30 minutes.
  3. You then would go downstairs to the pharmacy to get the vaccine and bring it back to the Women's Center to have it administered.
