I believe in examining the cultural context of the trainee's therapeutic work, helping them grow in cultural competence, exploring with them what they bring culturally to the therapeutic and supervisory process. I also see my function as a professional mentor, supporting their growth into the role of a profesional psychologist. I work with trainees to assess their current clinical functioning and to identify their growing edges and challenge them to address those edges while supporting them in their development and experimentation. I see the process as collaborative, involving mutual respect and trust and becoming increasingly collegial over the course of the trainee's development. |
