Professional Interests and Supervision Model
University of Georgia (Clinical Psychology) (1972) Licensed Psychologist, HSPP

Professional Interests: Training and supervision; Suicide; Grief and Loss; Cultural diversity issues; Spirituality in Therapy; Mediation, conflict resolution

Supervision Model: My approach to supervision involves creating a safe, collaborative environment in which interns feel free to explore client issues, their skills as a therapist, as well as the personal and developmental issues that contribute to or interfere with their growth and effectiveness. I believe in examining the cultural context of the trainee's therapeutic work, helping them grow in cultural competence, exploring with them what they bring culturally to the therapeutic and supervisory process. I also see my function as a professional mentor, supporting their growth into the role of a profesional psychologist. I work with trainees to assess their current clinical functioning and to identify their growing edges and challenge them to address those edges while supporting them in their development and experimentation. I see the process as collaborative, involving mutual respect and trust and becoming increasingly collegial over the course of the trainee's development.
