Professional Interests and Supervision Model
Ph.D. Ball State University (Counseling Psychology) (2002) Licensed Psychologist, HSPP.

Professional interests: Spiritual development; Trauma and sexual abuse; Eating Disorders; Men?s issues; Diversity, and Relationship issues.

Supervision Model: My approach to supervision rests on the essential relational nature of human beings, and integrates interpersonal and developmental theories of supervision. I believe that a strong working alliance in the supervision relationship is important to create safety, trust, shared meaning, empowerment, and inter and intra-personal reflection, which in turn fosters the freedom for supervisees to be vulnerable and competent at the same time. I meet supervisees where they are developmentally and work with them to assess their clinical functioning, so I can challenge and support them as they experiment with conceptualization, theory, and techniques. I try to be honest about my impressions and feelings and seek to send interpersonal messages that honor the intern?s sense of self and encourage professional development. Likewise, I emphasize the supervisee?s feelings and reactions to clients and explore interpersonal themes that may play out in the counseling relationship. I encourage supervisees trust their instincts, use their awareness therapeutically, make choices, take responsibility for their decisions, and help them think about what interventions, personal feelings, etc. might mean for clients. I see the supervision process as collaborative and empowering and as I function as a teacher, mentor, consultant, counselor, and colleague.
