Ball State University is a state-assisted institution offering associate, bachelor's, master's, education specialist, and doctoral degrees. The university is in Muncie, Indiana, a community of 78,000, one hour northeast of Indianapolis. Enrollment for fall 2006 was 17,728, of whom 15,903 were undergraduate students. Enrollment is traditionally 55 percent female; the minority population is 7 percent. Ball State offers more than 150 major and minor areas of study.
