Building Better Communities through Grantsmanship
Purpose

To train BSU students in the skills of grant-proposal writing while fulfilling the proposal-writing needs of community organizations.  By pairing students with these organizations, a grant template was developed to ease the tasks of future proposal writing.

Action
Students learned and applied proposal-writing skills to generate proposals to fund needed programming and support for the community partners.

Results

  • Submission of two grant proposals to enable underprivileged youth to participate in summer arts programming
  • Research and creation of prospect list for future grant proposals
  • Generation of five grant proposals to support youth programming, technology support, and landscape improvements
  • Applications for three grants on behalf of the Blue River Foundation serving the city of Shelbyville and  Shelby County
