Smokefree Indiana Project
Purpose
The purpose of this project was to support community collaboration that will develop, expand, and enhance programs and policies that encourage minimizing the impact of smoking and secondhand smoke.

Actions
The Smokefree Indiana Business Fellows team attended professional development seminars and training including Team Building, Communication Skills, Problem Solving and Critical Thinking, and Etiquette Training; conducted regularly weekly team meetings and committee meetings as needed; conducted community and campus needs assessments; interviewed community tobacco coalitions regarding key informant information; researched and evaluated smoking policies in college settings;  communicated with colleges about implementation and enforcement of smoke-free policies; participated in advocacy training; brainstormed marketing ideas and identified potential marketing strategies; contacted media resources regularly and systematically, placing advertisements, letters to the editor, public service announcements, and news releases; accepted marketing strategies to target eighteen- to twenty-four-year-olds (not in college) generated by three marketing classes to submit to our partner; submitted a grant proposal (funded) to support marketing efforts, including advertisements, fliers, and presentations; surveyed eighteen- to twenty-four-year-olds in a community setting;  prepared and submitted letters to the editors of local papers; concluded an ongoing petition drive; sponsored two "Butt Pick Up" days and brought Dr. Victor DeNoble to campus; prepared and presented information to the general campus community, to the Student Government Association, and to numerous campus organizations; presented information to President Jo Ann Gora and university administrators; and prepared final reports and presentations for partners and the Business Fellows Showcase.

Results
The team prepared a needs assessment summary report; a grant proposal; petitions and organization resolutions supporting a smoke free campus; marketing campaigns; letters of support; an abstract submitted for presentation at a National Conference; and a final report and presentations.
