Students with undergraduate majors in special education often select the master of arts (MA) degree program to strengthen their bachelor's degree preparation or to acquire another area of special education licensure.
Areas of specialization include:

- mild interventions
- severe/intense interventions
- early childhood special education
- general special education
- visual impairment
- behavior disorders
- director of special education/exceptional needs
In addition, the department has a graduate concentration in emotional/behavioral disorders.
Degree Offered through Distance Education
The master of arts degree program is offered by distance education in Allen and Hamilton counties in Indiana. Courses are delivered via the Internet, closed-circuit television, and onsite instruction.
