Minor in Special Education: Hearing-Impaired
A minor in special education: hearing impaired may be beneficial for students majoring in the programs in the Department of Speech Pathology and Audiology (SPAA). The minor includes courses in American Sign Language.

Required Courses (27-33 hours)

SPCED 201 - Introduction to Students With Exceptional Needs.

SPCED 240 - History of Education of Deaf Persons and Psychology of Deafness.

SPCED 246 - Speech Development for Students who are Deaf or Hard of Hearing.

SPCED 454 - Introduction to Language for Deaf Persons.

SPCED 456 - Language Methods for Deaf Persons.

SPCED 458 - Teaching Reading and Elementary School Subjects to Deaf Persons.

SPAA 270 - Language Development.

SPAA 343 - Introduction to Audiology.

SNLNG 251 - American Sign Language 1.

SNLNG 252 - American Sign Language 2.

(SNLNG 251 and 252 are required for students planning to work in a total communication program for the hearing impaired.)

Students not meeting the prerequisite for SPCED 458 should see the department chairperson regarding a waiver.
