Overall, the Spanish-speaking community in Indiana is the most rapidly growing segment of the state's population. Given the 117 percent increase in the Latino community from 1990-2000, Spanish-speaking residents will represent the leading minority group in Indiana within a few short years. To strengthen Indiana's workplace environment, Ball State University offers occupational Spanish language training for a variety of sectors.

Hispanics Now One-Seventh of U.S. PopulationOne of every seven people in the United States is Hispanic, a number likely to keep going up because of immigration and a birth rate outstripping non-Hispanic African Americans and whites. There are 41.3 million Hispanics in the United States, the Census Bureau reported.
