SSWA
Student Social Work Association (SSWA)

What is the purpose of SSWA?

The Student Social Work Association (SSWA) is dedicated to working together to provide support and education to the community while fostering the development of student professional social work skills.  SSWA By-laws

Who can be a member?

If you are interested, and a Ball State student, you can join SSWA.  Membership is a bargain at only $5.00 a year.  As a member you would be expected to attend association meetings, participate in activities endorsed by SSWA, and abide by the NASW Code of Ethics.  If interested, you can contact the faculty advisor, Dr. Greta Slater or a student officer.

When does SSWA hold its meetings?

SSWA meetings are held the first Thursday of each month at 5p.m. in AR228.  Just come.  You don't need to call ahead.

Why should you get involved?

There are many reasons to get involved with SSWA.  These include:

  • Networking opportunities with the community and other social work majors (Connections, connections, connections!)
  • Real-world application of what you're learning in the classroom
  • Opportunities to experience leadership and service opportunities (A great addition to your resume!)
  • Knowledge from practicing social workers.

What does SSWA do?

Here's what you can expect:

  • Monthly general meetings (Food & fun!)
  • Interesting service projects including an annual lobby day event in Indianapolis
  • Presentations from Ball State's social workers now in the field
  • Information about life after Ball State including graduate school
  • Mentoring from other Ball State social work students (Bonus!  Information from peoplewho have been there, done that, and have a social work t- shirt or tote bag!)
