Social Work Scholarship Opportunities
Are there social work scholarships available?
Yes. Four scholarships are available through the Department of Social Work. These include:
- Ed and Maureen Dobrow Social Work Scholarship
Muncie Indiana residents Ed and Maureen Dobrow created this scholarship in 1996. Ed Dobrow is the owner and president of Dobrow Industries, Inc. in Muncie. With gratitude to the Dobrows, the Department of Social Work provides this resource to social work students.
- W.K. and L.M. Rehfeld Scholarship and Financial Assistance Awards
In 1966, Karl Rehfeld and his wife, Lea, moved to Muncie to begin a social work program at Ball state university. In the 10 years that followed, the program emerged from a few courses to a full department with a curriculum accredited by the Council on Social Work Education in 1974. In keeping with their dedication to helping students in the social wok major at Ball State University, the Rehfelds provided a financial gift to the Ball State foundation in 1981 to provide financial assistance for social work majors. With gratitude to the Rehfleds, the Department of Social Work provides this resource to students majoring in social work.
In 2004 Dr. Harry Macy retired after serving for 31 years as chair of the Department of Social Work. The Harry Macy Scholarship was created to honor his years of service and dedication to social work education at Ball State University.
Under Dr. Macy's leadership the Department of Social Work became nationally known as offering a premier BSW degree. It is his strong desire that the department continue to provide the highest quality undergraduate social work education in Indiana. Many have made donations to this scholarship and it is anticipated Harry Macy scholarship awards will begin to be awarded during the spring, 2008 semester.

Social Work seniors participating in this program take select child welfare courses, complete an internship within the Department of Child Services and then move directly into a full time position upon graduation.
