Three and Four Year Programs
Can I finish a social work degree in 4 years?
Sure. Incoming freshmen that declare social work as their major can easily complete the BSW degree in four years. You can also pursue a minor in a supportive discipline as well. If a standard academic plan is followed there is no need to spend more than four academic years at Ball State. You'll work closely with an advisor from the department to ensure timely completion of all degree requirements.
Model 4 Year Social Work Academic Plan
Is it possible to complete a social work degree in less than four years?
Yes, if you are interested in a fast track approach you can complete your degree in three years provided you take classes during the summer session(s). If you elect to do a three-year program you would work closely with your advisors to create a structured academic plan.
Model 3 Year Social Work Academic Plan
What should I consider when deciding on the 3 year program?
The 3-year program requires you to remain very focused on coursework year round. You may find you need a summer break from classes for rest and recuperation or need to work during the summer months. Also, as a social work major you would complete a field practicum or internship in the last semester of your senior year. As a student completing the 3 year program you may have difficulty securing your first choice of internship site if you are not yet 21 years of age. Some agency field placement sites require interns to be at least 21 years of age.
