Social Work Major
The social work major is the most recognized undergraduate degree that prepares you for immediate entry into professional human-service positions, and makes you eligible to sit for the state licensing exam. The major combines liberal arts and professional social work course work to help you develop the knowledge, values, and skills you will need as a professional social worker.
What courses do I take to finish the BSW degree?
All students graduating with an undergraduate degree from Ball State University must earn a minimum of 126 semester hours. Thirty of the last forty semester hours earned toward the degree must be taken at Ball State. The social work curriculum has been developed following the standards laid down by the Council on Social Work Education.

Do social work majors complete an internship?
Yes. All social work majors complete a 40 hour a week internship called a Field Practicum in a social service agency during their last semester. This field practicum becomes a part of the student's resume as their first professional experience.
