Mission Statement:
The mission of the Shared Information Service resource centers for gifted/talented education is to serve the unique gifts and talents of Indiana children. We will promote excellence and leadership in education and serve as a clearinghouse of resources and information.

Shared Information Services began at Ball State University in September 1983, through a contract with the Indiana Department of Education, Division of Curriculum. September through the following February, SIS was devoted to investigating resources, ordering materials, and preparing for patrons.

In March 1984, the resource center opened its doors to educators and has been serving the state since. By the end of October 1984, the resource center was fully scheduled with interested visiting classes and mobile visits through February 1985, and the need for additional centers was evident. In the fall of 1985, centers at Purdue University and Wilson Educational Service Center opened their doors. As usage increased, a center at Indiana University Purdue University - Indianapolis (IUPUI) was added. This center was later moved to the Indianapolis Public Schools system. Due to state educational budget concerns, the Indianapolis center closed its doors in June 2002. In 2005, the center at Wilson Education Center also closed its doors. Now, centers at Ball State University and Purdue University make a successfully conjoined effort to serve all of Indiana's educators, professionals, parents, and students. Each center carries over 8,000 items available for check-out, in addition to State Standards and Test Kits for observation.

Shared Information Services has been serving Indiana for over 20 years! We are funded by the Indiana Department of Education, Division of Exceptional Learners, Gifted/Talented & High Ability.
