The
Department of Natural Resources and Environmental Management prepares
students for careers in environmental science and management of
natural resources. The programs offered by the department are designed
to give students a basic scientific and socioeconomic understanding
of ecosystems.
The department
offers a major in natural resources and environmental
management, a minor in natural resources, a minor in environmental
management, a teaching minor in conservation and environmental studies,
and an endorsement for elementary education majors.
The department
also coordinates interdepartmental minors in energy and environmental
policy.
Students majoring
in natural resources and environmental management choose one of
the following options:
All majors must
complete a common core requirement. Many courses include laboratory
work using sophisticated analytical equipment. Each year, students
have opportunities for in-depth two-to-four-week field studies in
the United States and other countries. Students are encouraged to
participate in practicums or internships under the supervision of
faculty members or professionals working in private consulting firms,
governmental agencies, or environment education centers.
