Notes for Creative Writing Applicants

1. When we read your application, we hope to see that you are intelligent, imaginative, engaged, verbally lively, and ready for advanced study.
    
2. The sample of your creative writing is the most important item. We will focus on its artistic quality.
    
3. Your statement of aesthetics should show that you have given serious thought to your artistry. It might involve considerations of perception, beauty, taste, artistic sensibility; and/or you might emphasize your purpose as a writer, your sense of audience, your subject or materials, your influences, the role of art in society, the nature and effectiveness of particular artistic devices, etc.
