| RE: | Commencement Information |
Although spring graduation is still a few weeks away, now is the time to start planning for the event. All graduating seniors and Master's Degree candidates from the College of Sciences and Humanities will meet south of the Heating Plant, where the smoke stacks are located, at 9:15 a.m. on Commencement Day, Saturday, May 9. Doctoral Degree candidates will meet in the lobby of Lucina Hall. After everyone is in place, the Academic Procession will proceed to the Arts Terrace for the all-university ceremony.
After the all-university ceremony, graduating seniors and Master's Degree candidates will recess to attend their own college exercises which will begin approximately 30 minutes later. Our ceremony, for the College of Sciences and Humanities, will be held in Worthen Arena.
When you reach Worthen Arena, please enter the building through Gate 3, turn immediately to your left, and line up on the concourse between aisles 2 and 6. You should line-up by your department's sign. Once the lines are ready, graduates will proceed to the floor of the Arena.
Each graduate will walk across the platform during the College ceremony and will be greeted by the Dean or Associate Dean. It is very important that you complete the name card provided by the Commencement Office and bring it with you to the ceremony because this is the card from which your name will be read. Graduates will be directed by Faculty and Junior Marshals for the march across the platform. Graduates will receive diploma covers. Diplomas will be mailed after graduation has been certified.
A photographer will be present to take individual pictures as you leave the platform. We respectfully request that you remain seated with other graduates from your department until all have received their diploma covers. At the conclusion of the ceremony, graduates will recess, by department, and may then join their friends and family.
If you are in a wheelchair or find it inconvenient to march across the platform, please notify Sharon Woodruff in the Registrar's Office as soon as possible. Arrangements will be made for you to participate.
Rain Information:
In the event of rain, the main ceremony will move to Worthen Arena at 10:00 a.m. with limited seating. Undergraduate and master's degree students will enter Worthen Arena through upper level gates 1 and 2 starting at 9:00 a.m. and proceed to aisles 4, 5, and 6 and be seated per instructions by signs and arena workers. Faculty, doctoral and specialist in education degree candidates, and the platform party will line up at Lower Level, Gate 1 in Worthen Arena.
After the conclusion of the main ceremony, the College of Sciences and Humanities ceremony will then begin at approximately 12:30 p.m., also in Worthen Arena.
