Enhanced Spam Filtering

Terminals with Spam
After requests from all across campus, consultation with the appropriate University Senate committees, discussions at all levels and the responses from a campus wide survey which overwhelmingly requested spam filtering, UCS has implemented enhanced spam filtering.  You may have noticed the decrease in spam.  In our tracking, of the approximately 2 million e-mail transactions per day, more than 90% were identified as spam.  These unwanted messages have now been now been filtered out of your e-mail box.  The algorithm that filters depends heavily on those senders who have been identified as spammers.

If you would like to check your filtered spam and identify mail that should not be filtered log in at https://spam.frontbridge.com.

Logging In

  1. First, type the following web address https://spam.frontbridge.com
  2. You will be asked for a username and password.
  3. Enter you full BSU e-mail address in the Username box.
  4. Leave the password BLANK.
  5. Hit Log-on.
  6. Give your e-mail account a few minutes, and you will be mailed a password.  You are now ready to log-in with your full BSU e-mail address and new password.
  7. Once you have logged in, you will see one of the following:

  • If you have no messages filtered, you will see a message that says, "You have 0 messages."
  • A list of spam messages that have been filtered for you.
  • A message that says "Your spam is temporarily unavailable.  An unexpected error has occurred.  Please try to login again in 10 minutes.  Information about the error will be sent to the network administrator for further troubleshooting.

My Settings

This option will allow you to choose the language for the application and how you would like your spam notification to appear.  If you do not change the language, it will default to English.

You are also given the option to change your password here.  UCS recommends changing passwords once every two months.

Help

The help option gives pointers for viewing, saving and deleting you spam messages.

Viewing:  To view a message just click on the Subject of the message.  To save a message, select "Salvage" from the drop down list while viewing the message.  This will send the message to your corporate e-mail box.  If the message is NOT SPAM, select the "Report as false positive" option from the drop down list.  This will salvage the message and notify the Spam Quarantine Team that it was incorrectly marked as spam.

Delete or Salvage:  Clicking on the box next to the message will allow you to delete or salvage a particular message.  A check mark will appear in the box you click on.  If you decide you do not want to delete/salvage the message you have clicked, simply click again and the checkmark will disappear.  To select or de-select all messages appearing on the page, click the checkbox in the bar at the top of the message list, or the "Select All" checkbox at the end of the message list.  To complete the deletion or salvage operation, choose "Delete selected messages" or "Salvage selected messages" from the pull-down menu at the top, then click "Go."  To delete ALL messages, choose "Delete ALL messages" from the pull-down menu, then click "Go."

Logout

The logout option allows you to logout of the application.
