Checking to see if a remote site is listed as a known spammer is a somewhat complex process. First, you must known the numerical internet address (The IP Address) of the remote system that is attempting to deliver mail to Ball State. This will not be (or at lease should not be) the address of the remote workstation, but rather the address of the remote server attempting to deliver e-mail to Ball State. The e-mail administrator at the remote site will have this information. Second, you must check this address in the one of the MAPS lists to see if a match is found. This check can be completed using the MAPS search tool, which allows the e-mail service provider to check all of the various MAPS lists to be search is available through one simple search.
If a match is found, this is an indication of a serious problem that must be addressed by the remote e-mail systems administrator. Please keep in mind that the problem cannot be addressed here at Ball State. In fact, there is nothing that we here at Ball State can do to force the removal of a particular e-mail server from the Real Time Black Hole List.. Remote e-mail server administrators should contact Mail Abuse Prevention Systems for information about getting out of the list of blocked addresses.
