Science Doctoral Program Assistantships
An assistantship supports you financially and academically and are awarded by the individual science departments.

Assistantships include a stipend, full tuition remission*, and a waiver of out-of-state fees. If you hold an assistantship for an entire academic year, then you receive a tuition waiver* for the following summer. Stipends vary by department.

In return, you will assist faculty in teaching, although some assistants receive other assignments. After you complete your assistantship, you may be able to teach courses as a contract faculty member, thereby extending your teaching experience.

Note: Availability and duties of assistantships vary among the eight major departments involved in the program.

To apply for an assistantship, simply check the box on our application form (either the interactive form.  You must contact the department you are applying to (click here for contact information); and they will notify you prior to the beginning of the term (usually during the spring before the fall term).

*Dedicated fees, which are subject to change, are not covered by any assistantship remission.
