When I first came
to Ball State, I was undecided. Like many students, I felt the pressure to choose a major, but I didn't know what I wanted to do with my life or how to make that decision. At the time, I thought being undecided was a weakness.
Now that I am an academic advisor, I can see how being undecided as a freshman at Ball State can actually be an advantage.
As an undecided student, you get the chance to explore a variety of options--Ball State offers more than 130 majors. Being undecided allows you to take the time to examine which major and career options are a good fit for you based on your personality, interests, skills, and abilities.
You can take assessment tests from the convenience of your computer, or you can stop by the Learning Center to use the career exploration computer programs. If you want a more personal approach, you can choose to meet one-on-one with our major/minor coordinator or a career counselor.
Once you narrow down your choices, you
can research them to determine career opportunities, job outlook, salary information, and required courses. You can also talk with current Ball State students or meet with professors from the department.
Being undecided as a freshman is OK. It's a great opportunity for you to discover who you are and what you want to do with your life.
Ball State is here to help you every step
of the way.
