The staff in the office of Student Rights and Community Standards assists students in notifying instructors if they experience an emergency and must be away from campus for an extended period of time. Anyone may call our office at 285-5036 on behalf of the student. We will ask the reason for the absence if the student feels comfortable in sharing it and the date they anticipate returning to classes.
In the event of an unanticipated absence in which you are missing classes for THREE (3) days or longer due to illness, injury, death in the family, or an emergency situation, students can contact our office at 285-5036. Staff will notify instructors of your absence. Upon return, students must follow-up with instructors regarding the opportunity to make up missed assignments.
This notification is not an EXCUSE, and it will still be necessary for students to provide documentation for the absence to their instructors when they return. This service merely provides immediate notification of an extended absence with expected follow –up contact by the student later with all instructors.
PLEASE NOTE: If you anticipate an absence of less than three days, you are encouraged to speak to your instructors prior to the absence, stating the reason and discussing the opportunity to make up missed assignments.
In the case of an emergency, we will also help family reach a student in class.
