General information, requirements, and deadlines for admission to the graduate school may be found in the Ball State University Graduate Catalog. In addition, the specific requirements for admission to the program in Student Affairs Administration in Higher Education are as follows:
- A bachelor's degree from an accredited four-year college or university.
- A minimum 2.75 cumulative undergraduate grade-point average (includes all undergraduate courses taken at any college or university).
- Names of 3 professional references from persons familiar with the applicant's academic performance and aptitude for Student Affairs work.

- Resume'.
- An invitation for a personal interview from the Student Affairs Program Selection Committee.
When all of the applicant's admissions materials have been received, the Student Affairs Program Selection Committee carefully reviews them, and invitations for personal interviews are extended to several applicants. Final selection for the program is then made after applicants have been interviewed.
It should be noted that the number of graduate assistantships available (outside of Housing and Residence Life) is limited to 15. Therefore, the strongest consideration is given to those candidates with strong academic achievement and rich co-curricular experience.
