Mission

Student Affairs supports the university's mission and goals by providing  leadership in the integration of learning throughout the collegiate experience, challenging and supporting students, and sustaining optimal enrollments.

Functions

Student Affairs fosters student success by conducting these three primary functions:

  • Acting as a student-centered advocate for learning, involvement, student development, high expectations, and accountability.
  • Providing learning and support through effective student services.
  • Developing programs, opportunities, and services to enhance learning.

Intended Outcomes

Student Affairs has two broad intended outcomes that students and other clients will experience as a result of interacting with our staff, programs, and/or services. They are learning and development and quality service. 

Student learning and development will occur as a result of interacting with Student Affairs staff, programs, and/or services. Evidence of student learning and development may be demonstrated by growth in the following areas:

  • Cognitive skills (Critical thinking, communication skills, the application of knowledge, decision making, lifelong learning)
  • Personal development (Affective skills, purpose and integrity, self-esteem, autonomy, interpersonal relationships, practical competence, management of emotions, personal wellness)
  • Societal responsibility (Respect and appreciation for human differences, ethical behavior, social skills, environmental sensitivity, accountability, altruism)

Students and other clients will experience quality service as a result of interacting with Student Affairs staff, programs, and/or services.  Evidence of high quality service may be demonstrated by excellence in the following principles:

  • Client-centered focus (Respect, personal attention, caring, effective communication)
  • Professional environment (Friendly, courteous, confidential, safe, well maintained)
  • Effective practices (Innovative, efficient, accurate, timely, continuous improvement)

Goals and Priorities

Long-term goals are:

  • Learning and Development. Enhance student learning and the development of life skills.
  • Community. Create and sustain a civil, positive, and diverse learning community.
  • Enrollment. Provide support in achieving the university's enrollment (i.e., recruitment and retention) plan.
  • Staff. Attract and retain highly qualified and effective staff.
  • Outcomes. Facilitate learning outcomes as determined by careful planning, research, and assessment.
