Involvement in a research or creative project requires dedication of effort and time beyond a faculty member's normal responsibilities. Ball State University supports this commitment through the Internal Grant Programs. The primary emphasis of these funding opportunities is to provide seed money for projects and to serve as a learning tool for obtaining external support.
Mission
Ball State University's Internal Grants Program was created in 1965 to provide funding to faculty and students and to support and develop projects in the areas of research and creative endeavors. Internal Grants are intended to supplement and strengthen the support for research and creative endeavors that comes both from department and college resources and other university programs.
The Office of the Provost furnishes the funds that are administered by the Office of Academic Research and Sponsored Programs (OARSP). The funds are distributed through the Internal Grants competitions that are open to faculty and students. These programs are designed to support research, scholarly study and creative endeavors.
Faculty awards carry the responsibility to disseminate the results of any funded internal project either through publication in refereed outlets or in a medium appropriate to the endeavor. Faculty applicants are also expected to submit proposals for external funding before seeking additional internal grant funds.
Internal Grant Review Committees, created by the University Senate, view these awards as seed money to assist in the initiation, acceleration or redeployment of research and creative efforts, with the intent to strengthen proposals for external funding.
**Please Note: Internal Grant Awards to faculty do not fund projects leading to advanced degrees.
