Departmental Advising
DEPARTMENTAL ADVISING

Every Ball State student is assigned a departmental advisor after completing 30 credit hours and declaring a major. Departmental academic advisors are prepared to discuss the following with you:

- University policies and procedures
- DAPR Interpretation
- Planning for academic progress including
Major, core curriculum, and graduation requirements
Major course selections for progress in the major
     Complimentary Majors and Minors

- Referrals to other university services
- Planning extra-departmental enrichment
- Graduate school
- Time management

If your only major is Philosophy or Religious Studies, you already have a Philosophy or Religious Studies Departmental Advisor. If you do not know your advisor, contact the department's Administrative Coordinator Linda West (lwest@bsu.edu).

If you have another major it is likely that your official advisor is in that department. Officially, each Ball State student has only one faculty advisor. Many double majors choose to receive their departmental advising outside of the Philosophy department because other majors tend to involve more complicated course ordering issues. If your official advisor is in another department and you would like an informal Philosophy advisor, we are happy to accommodate you. Contact Department Chair Dr. Juli Eflin (jeflin2@bsu.edu) to be assigned an informal advisor.

Whether you have a departmental advisor or not, all members of the faculty are happy to answer your questions. Make an appointment to visit our offices, catch us before or after class, or just ask questions as we see each other around campus. We're here to help.
