Under the Direction of Purchasing Agent, Gayla Brasher, Ball State Purchasing hosted Project: Green Clean on June 20, 2007, at the Ball State Alumni Center Assembly Hall. The event was held from 12:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. and attracted around 100 community members, including Muncie community schools and small business owners.
Gayla was extremely pleased with the attendance and overall success of the event. Gayla remarked that, "Green Cleaning is the way of the future. I was happy to be a part of helping the University & the community's awareness of the current Green Products available to them."
Regional vendors who participated include Bunzl, Acorn Distributors, HP Products, Johnson Diversity, Surebrands Inc., Wayne Products, Ecolab, Grainger, Intelligent Cleaning Systems, Inc., Hillyard, Dalton & Co. Prof. Cleaning Supply, Shaklee Corporation, Franklin Maintenance Products, Envirox LLC., Spectrum Janitorial Supply, and RFS Group LLC. Vendors provided product demonstrations on site with their "Green" Cleaning Products. "Green" Cleaning Products have been identified as better solutions for environmental and health concerns. Switching from traditional cleaning products to biodegradable, low toxicity or otherwise less harmful products can drastically improve the environmental profile of routine cleaning activities without sacrificing cleaning effectiveness. Using green cleaners can also reduce costs and improve employee productivity.
Positive comments were received from vendors who participated. Doug Qua, Government Account Manager with Grainger, stated, "I feel the contacts I was able to make were very worthwhile." Wayne Products Representative Todd Johnson, who participated in the event, mentioned the opportunities this event provided for exposure to more environmentally friendly products, particularly for a local industrial company that is implementing plant-wide "Green Cleaning".
Matt Stephenson, Purchasing Director, commented on the success of the event, stating, "I would like to express my appreciation for the hard work and effort Gayla gave to Project: Green Clean. Gayla conceived the idea of a tradeshow focusing on environmentally friendly cleaning products several months ago. She took this idea into reality through careful planning, consultation of various experts and good old fashion hard work. The successful event put key decisions makers and the suppliers of these green products in the same room for some demonstration, conversation and a little fun. The event was a win – win for all that attended. Thanks Gayla for making this happen".
Project: Green Clean will be held again in the future and will be advertised through local media.
