Dr. Saiful Islam has been appointed Radiation Safety Officer (RSO) for Ball State University and is responsible for the safe usage of radioactive materials on campus. The RSO is responsible for managing the radiation safety program; identifying radiation safety problems; initiating, recommending or providing corrective actions; verifying implementation of corrective actions; training faculty and staff in the safe usage, storage, and disposal of radioactive materials; overseeing the safe disposal of radioactive waste materials; serving as the conduit for all radioactive materials that arrive on campus; and ensuring the compliance with all regulations for the usage of radioactive materials.
The RSO has the authority to immediately halt any operations involving the usage of radioactive materials in which health and safety may be compromised or any which are not in compliance with Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) requirements. All questions concerning the usage of radioactive materials at Ball State should be directed to Dr. Islam. All projects which involve the usage of radioactive materials and all rooms where such materials will be used or stored must be approved prior to initiation of the project by the University Radiation Safety Committee and the RSO. |
