Alcohol use often makes people more aggressive and puts them at greater risk for being victims of violence. In a survey of college students, 34 percent reported that they got into a fight or argument while under the influence of alcohol.
If you choose to drink or to be around people who are drinking, recognize that the threat of violence is real and take measures to reduce your risk.
- Do not drink to excess. Know your limit and stop when you reach it.
- Do not antagonize people who may turn violent.
- If you are threatened with violence, get away from the situation as quickly as possible.
- If a situation turns dangerous, call 911 or University Police at being victims of violence. (765) 285-1111 immediately, even if it may mean that the police will know you and your friends have been drinking underage. Your safety and the safety of others may depend on it.
