Student Legal Services is a free service for currently enrolled students. Students may receive legal advice and counseling on a legal matter. Services include:

• Legal Counseling: Help a student client understand the nature of a legal problem, explain its implications, and assist the student to resolve the matter.
• Referral: Identify the seriousness or complexity of a student's legal problem that may require representation by a private attorney.
• Preventive Education: Inform students of their legal rights so that they will be better equipped to avoid legal problems.
• Legal Resource Center: Serve as a resource center for students who have legal questions and may need legal information.

Student Legal Services can assist students with criminal or civil law concerns. Landlord/tenant, contracts, and debt issues are the civil law issues of most concern to students. Ninety-five percent of the criminal matters brought to Student Legal Services involve violations of alcohol laws.
