Graduate Admission Requirements

Our programs are competitive and limited to twelve spots in the clinical program and eight spots in the social and cognitive processes program each year. We receive more qualified applicants than we can accept, so we employ the following requirements to assist in our selection:

  • Minimum grade point average (GPA) of 2.75 on a 4.00 scale: the Ball State Graduate School sets this requirement, and we rarely waive it. You must be admitted to one of our departmental programs and to the Graduate School to enroll as a degree-seeking student.
  • Undergraduate statistics and research methods courses are strongly preferred.
  • Positive letters of recommendation providing evidence that you have the necessary skills to succeed.
  • An acceptable Graduate Record Exam (GRE) score: we do not use absolute cutoffs for GPA or GRE scores.
  • A personal statement and vita showing that our program would be a good fit for you and that you have the necessary skills to succeed.

Below are averages of data submitted by applicants who were admitted to our programs in the past three years. Note: meeting or exceeding these averages does not guarantee admission.
