Assigning you an adviser
We try to assign a faculty adviser with whom you can share an academic interest. Don't worry if you don't really have an "academic interest" quite yet. After we talk with you about your plans and motivations for the future, we'll assign you an adviser who will assist you in setting goals.
If you are interested in the research interests of faculty, you can stop by the ARC to talk with one of us or read a brief summary of interests about each faculty member on the department's Faculty and Staff page.
As part of PSYSC 295, you will work with your adviser to plan your courses and related activities. You should also talk about careers in psychology, graduate school, and related education and professional issues. In addition to your department faculty adviser, you may still need to talk to Larry Ottinger, the academic advisor for the Bachelor of General Studies Program in University College. He can help you with information about general studies requirements and applying for graduation.
Students with a minor or double major in psychology
If you have a minor in psychological science or a double major, you may not have a formally assigned adviser in the department. However, you should have an informal adviser. See Bernard Whitley, the department chair, contact a faculty member who you would like to be your adviser, or visit us at the ARC.
