Printing Services
methods of transferring electronic files to Printing Services
There are several ways to get digital files to Printing Services. You can bring your project on removable media such as floppy disks, ZIP disks, or CD ROM.You can also use the BSU backbone network to transfer files directly to one of our shared servers.

Removable Media

By far, the most common removable media we receive is ZIP disks. We can also read floppy disks, CD ROMs, and DVDs. Please collect all your layout, graphics, and fonts files and put them on your disks the best you can and send them along. We will return your disks.

Campus Backbone

Any user on the campus backbone can simply connect directly to our shared server and copy their files right over.

Mac Users:

Collect all your layout, graphics, and fonts files and put them in a single folder labeled according to the project name. Go to your chooser and select the Server IP Address button. Enter printservices.bsu.edu and log on using your outlook username and password; you should see a folder called Pre-press Drop box connect to it. Open the "Customer Area" folder, and copy the folder containing all your project files into this folder. Please let your CSR know where you put your folder and what you called it. Please do not copy multiple individual files into the drop box. If you do, we can't tell which files go with who's project. You may have to Stuff your files into a single archive before you copy them to the server. If you have problems, please call Ken Johnson at 285-8420 for assistance.

Windows Users:

Collect all your layout, graphics, and fonts files and put them in a single folder labeled according to the project name. Go to your Network Neighborhood and then Entire Network. Look for a computer "printservices.bsu.edu". Double-click it and log on using your Outlook username and password. You should see a folder called Pre-press Drop box. Open it, and you should see a folder called "Customer Area". Drag your project folder onto the drop box folder and it will copy your files to the drop box.

Then please tell your CSR where you put your project and what you called it. Again, if you need assistance sending your files to us, please call Ken Johnson at 285-8420.

Common Problems

One common problem we encounter when receiving customer files is they often are Mac files, copied to a PC and then transferred to Printing Services some way. The problem with transferring Mac files to a PC as an intermediate step is that all the resource data (crucial to Mac files) is stripped out by Windows. So when we get the files, they lose their file type and creator, and if they don't have an accurate file extension, we have no way of telling what kind of files they are. Some files such as fonts, are completely dependent on their resource information and are useless without it. So, avoid transferring Mac files through a PC, or at least use correct file extensions and always STUFF your project before transferring it.

Another common problem is missing fonts and graphics. Please make sure that all fonts and graphics used in the layout(s) are sent with the job.
