Rodger W. Smith came to Ball State to establish an acting for the camera program and create a liaison between the departments of theatre and telecommunications. In addtion to his responsibilities within the Theatre Department, Rodger is the Director of the Institute for Digital Entertainment and Education, as well as the associate director of the Center for Media Design.

Rodger's work with high definition cinema and interactive media has resulted in his being the executive producer of two Student Academy Award winning films ("Knock Knock" 2005 and "Perspective" 2006). He also created and directs the Los Angeles Showcase where graduating seniors perform live and on film for an audience of managers, agents, and casting directors.

Career highlights:

  • Directed two films, a number of plays, and co-wrote several plays including The Acting for Camera Program
  • Assisted in creating the Cinema Entertainment Consortium
  • Assisted in creating Ball State's first entertainment Web site which led to winning the Virginia Ball Center for Creativity Fellowship Award
  • Created the Los Angeles Directors' and Actors' Showcase   
  • Appointed the first associate director of the Center for Media Design and the first director of content research and development for the center
  • Created the Institute for Digital Entertainment and Education
