Bob Papper is among Ball State's most honored professors. He is well known for his teaching skills, media research, and work within the broadcasting industry.

Career highlights:

  • Winner of more than 100 state, regional, and national awards for news, including the DuPont-Columbia Award – the broadcast equivalent of the Pulitzer Prize.
  • According to his publisher, Papper's book, Broadcast News & Writing Stylebook, is the most widely used text of its kind in the U.S.
  • One of the investigators on the Middletown Media Studies, the largest observational research ever conducted on media use.
  • Worked at TV stations in Minneapolis, Washington, D.C., San Francisco, and Columbus, Ohio.
  • Oversaw the RTNDA/Ball State University Annual Survey on the state of local radio and television news. That research for the Radio Television News Directors Association is the central source of information on salaries, amount of news and staff, women and minorities, profitability, station Web sites, and more. 
  • Recently completed a national study for the RTNDF and the Ford Foundation on the Future of News
  • 2006 winner of Ball State's Researcher of the Year Award.
