Summary of Position
Develop, coordinate, and analyze infectious disease epidemiologic protocols as well as lead specific investigations with local health departments and the Indiana State Department of Health (ISDH). Serve as liaison between ISDH and local health departments (LHDs) within assigned region and as spokesperson to local media when necessary. Utilize broad knowledge of epidemiology, statistics, and infectious disease to coordinate outbreak investigations and public health surveillance. Position is located in Public Health Preparedness District 8 (south central Indiana).
Summary of Responsibilities
- Develop and distribute procedures at LHDs in the region for epidemiologic outbreak investigations; assist LHDs to prepare and respond to public health events
- Assist in analyzing data gathered during epidemiologic investigations
- Coordinate information sharing with other programs, state and federal agencies, media representatives, public health and medical professionals, lay organizations, and private citizens
- Assist to prepare reports and information for legislation related to infectious disease epidemiology
- Coordinate training opportunities within the region
Overview of Job Requirements
- Knowledge of epidemiologic methods, study design, and study analyses; advanced level statistical procedures; infectious disease; training and public speaking techniques.
- Position entails a high degree of autonomy. Ability to develop and implement study protocols; communicate information relative to epidemiologic investigations; work cooperatively with LHDs staff and other personnel.
