Program Director 1 (3/10/2008)
The Indiana Tobacco Prevention and Cessation Agency (ITPC) is seeking a Program Director 1 to secure and coordinate all training activities for the agency and to oversee contracts that develop programs to help young people resist tobacco use. ITPC oversees the state's tobacco prevention campaign which includes local programs, special youth features, cessation initiatives and media components.  Some in-state travel is required. Program Director duties include:

Voice Duties and Responsibilities

  • Manage the state Voice Advisory Group

  • Serve as a liaison between ITPC and statewide organizations involved in Voice

  • Create partnerships with statewide youth organizations

  • Provide continual technical assistance to Voice hub directors

  • Coordinate statewide Voice initiatives

  • Develop Voice materials for trainings and resources

  • Create and update databases of youth movement resources to be utilized by state and local Voice movements

  • Insure that communication is continual across all organizations involved with Voice

  • Assist with the evaluation of Voice

Training Duties and Responsibilities

  • Identify trainings needs of ITPC partners

  • Research the availability of a variety of trainings offered by external organizations and present this information in an organized manner to management staff

  • Produce or coordinate the production of instructional materials required for trainings

  • Update and maintain ITPC training calendar

  • Assist in the development of a clearinghouse for tobacco prevention and cessation resources

General Duties and Responsibilities

  • Gain working knowledge of following tobacco control strategies: 
    • prevention and reduction of tobacco use by adults, minorities, pregnant women and youth;
    • smoking cessation; 
    • reduction of exposure to secondhand smoke;
    • coalition building and maintenance;
    • research on issues related to reduction of tobacco use; and
    • enforcement of laws concerning sales of tobacco to youth and use of tobacco by youth.

The successful applicant will possess:

Willingness to undergo an annual physical/medical evaluation; ability to coordinate all activities of the Voice Advisory Group to ensure that they accomplish their goals as established by the approved, written work plan; ability to communicate orally and in writing; work independently.

Qualifications:

Seven (7) years full-time professional experience in program coordination, development, implementation, or related experience.  Substitution:  Accredited college training may substitute for up to six (6) years of the required experience.

Personal Work Relationships:

The incumbent works with agency staff, legislators and officials from local, Federal and State agencies for interpreting, developing and implementing major programs and resolving disputed issues.  These contacts have an important role in the development of the programs.

Additional Comments:

The candidate will be responsible for management of contracts.  Accounting experience and training organization and facilitation is helpful.  Experience in community work and/or working with adults who work with youth is highly desirable.
