ELIGIBILITY: Students from any public or private secondary school are eligible to apply provided that they declare physics or pre‑engineering as a major at Ball State. Candidates should satisfy at least one of the following criteria:
(1) rank in the top ten percent of their graduating class;
(2) have a combined Scholastic Aptitude Test (SAT) verbal, math, and written score of 1500 or above;
(3) have demonstrated outstanding achievement in high school science and/or mathematics.
APPLICATION PROCEDURE: All applications must be completed and returned on or before 5:00PM, March 1, 2009.
All applicants...
(1) must verify that they have made application for admission to Ball State University;
(2) will submit a completed Department of Physics and Astronomy Scholarship Application Form with a double‑spaced, typewritten autobiography, two or three pages in length, with some expression of future expectations. Particular attention should be given to goals and aspirations in physics or engineering;
(3) must have transcripts of all high school grades sent to the Department of Physics and Astronomy Scholarship Committee;
(4) should ask at least two school officials (teachers or administrators) to submit confidential letters of recommendation to the address below.
SELECTION: Final selection will be made on the basis of financial need, academic ability, character, creativity, and potential for academic excellence. The selection committee is composed of three Physics and Astronomy Department faculty members, the department head, and a representative of the Student Financial Aid Office.
