Department of Physics and Astronomy
Astronomy Research Activities
Faculty members are actively involved in the discovery of new and interesting objects and phenomena using local facilities and facilities around the world. Faculty members are dedicated to involving students in their research programs.

Undergraduate student research opportunities can be undertaken informally, for pay, as part of formal course offerings and in conjunction with special research projects such as Honors Fellowships or internal or external research scholarships.

Graduate level research in observational astronomy or astronomy education can be pursued informally or in the form of a formal research paper or a thesis. Formal activities are completed in specific courses which require prior faculty approval.

Research facilities currently available to faculty and students include the Ball State University Observatory, the SARA remotely-controlled telescope in Arizona and the Astronomy Research Center in the Cooper Science Building.
