The Great Lakes Athletic Trainers' Association (GLATA) recognized Dr. Tom Weidner, Professor, and Director, Athletic Training Education Program for his professional contributions to athletic training education by naming one of their annual Research Assistant Grant Awards in his honor. The GLATA Research Assistance Grant Awards are named after individuals who have had a profound impact on the Great Lakes Athletic Trainers' Association.  Dr. Weidner has made a critical and noteworthy impact on the association with his both his scholarly contributions and promotion of research both regionally and nationally.  Coupled with the fact that Dr. Weidner has inspired students and colleagues alike, he will have a positive impact on many athletic trainers far into the future.
