Physical Education Redefined
The Physical Education Teacher Education program received over $500,000 to provide best practice for Physical Education Teacher Education majors through technology training and application. Through funding from Polar, Incorporated and Healthways, Incorporated, the program hired a full-time technology coordinator to oversee the technology training for both faculty and students. In addition, the funding provided heart rate monitors, interfaces, PEManager/TriFit software, and pocket PC's for the Physical Education Teacher Education lab. These educational tools will be used in both activity classes and practicum classes. The resulting data validates our program and elevates the status of local physical education programs by promoting the assessment of student effort, skill, and knowledge. Long term objectives include training local physical education teachers in the use of heart rate monitors and pocket PC's to streamline grading and daily assessments. A final objective is to expand the Teacher Education Graduate Program by recruiting the best and brightest graduates of Teacher Education institutions.
