Common Core:
All Aquatic Minors have the common core – 11 credit hours:
PEP 190 – Introduction to Aquatics (3)
PEP 216 – Lifeguard Training (3)
PEP 315 – Water Safety Instructor (3)
PEP 454 – Pool Operations (2)
The Aquatics Minor contains Three (3) Options:
Option 1: Teaching and Coaching

This emphasis draws students from education majors and enhances their degree. Most states require by law that public school teachers who teach in the pool be Water Safety Instructor certified. This minor provides this and much more, giving the student greater marketability.
Option 2: Administration of Aquatics

An emphasis in this option benefits majors in a variety of fields including business, exercise science, natural resources, architecture and entrepreneurial studies. These minors work in organizations ranging from public service, colleges and universities to the private sector managing and operation aquatic facilities.

This option is useful for majors in archaeology, criminology, biology as well as others where investigation or rescue work enter the water. These minors may use their preparation to work for resorts, cruise ships, or dive shops among others. They get the basics required to receive further training to become technical, scientific, rescue.
