The Adapted Physical Education and Adapted Activity curriculum offer course content that includes introduction to disabling conditions, assessment, teaching methods, and program development. All classroom sessions are coordinated with field based practicum experiences in the public schools or other community based programs. The "gateway" courses into the license program are PEP 226 Disability Sport/Modified Games and PEP 227 Introduction to Adapted Physical Education. These are required courses for all Physical Education teaching majors.
The APE License is offered to Physical Education Majors only. The APE License is a total of 18 credit hours, however, 7 of those hours are required for the Physical Education major. Therefore, a teaching major in Physical Education can obtain the APE License with an additional 11 credit hours.
Coursework in the APE License addresses the APENS Standards.
