MAY I GET CREDIT TOWARD MY DEGREE FOR COURSES TAKEN AT OTHER UNIVERSITIES?
To petition for transfer course credit, a student must arrange for a "Transfer Course Evaluation Form (TCEF) to be filled out on their behalf in NQ 320.  The student will need to provide the course number and name and attach a brief course description from a university catalogue for the relevant course(s).  An academic advisor will forward the TCEF to the appropriate faculty advisor in Religious Studies.  Two main considerations determine the willingness of faculty advisors to grant credit for courses from another university:

  • Does the curriculum of the other university follow pedagogical principles in accord with the academic study of religion?
  • Is the particular course a suitable replacement for a religious studies course requirement at BSU?

If a course meets the first criterion but is not an appropriate substitute for a specific required course in the major, a faculty advisor may arrange to give credit toward the 11 elective hours necessary for the Religious Studies major.  Since there are no elective hours for completing the minor, a course from another university may be able to count as a general elective, rather than counting toward the religious studies minor itself.
