Religious Studies
WHAT COURSES MAY I TAKE AS ELECTIVES?

Electives in Religious Studies

Religious Studies majors must complete 15 hours in electives over and above the designated requirements.   (Note: we recommend that majors take no more than 9 hours outside Religious Studies).  Religious Studies minors must complete 3 hours of electives.

You may select electives through the following means:

  • Take additional religious studies courses that are not already counting toward the required 18 credit hours for the major and 15 credit hours for the minor.
  • Consult the list of approved electives drawn from the Department of Philosophy and Religious Studies and from other departments (see list below).  Note: you must confirm the availability and scheduling of courses offered by other departments.
  • Propose for consideration some other BSU course that demonstrates substantial engagement with themes and issues related to the study of religion.  As other departments add new courses and you, our students, become involved in the university, we realize that you may be a good source of information for other viable electives.  We welcome your suggestions.

Approved Electives

NOTE:  This whole list of electives will not appear on the DAPR; students will need to submit a pink DAPR form, signed by their advisor, to receive credit for "approved electives"
