Philosophy Program
WHEN SHOULD I REGISTER AS, AND COMPLETE COURSES TOWARDS, A PHILOSOPHY MAJOR OR MINOR?
To graduate in a timely fashion, you should begin completing a degree in Philosophy as soon as possible.

If you are a freshman, visit the North Quad Advising Center in NQ 324 to declare, change, or add a major or minor. For all other students, visit the advising center to which you have been assigned and the staff will assist you in completing the necessary forms. The advising center for those for whom Philosophy is their primary or only major is NQ 320. The staff in NQ 320 will also assist you in locating your designated advising center if you are unsure where it is.

With occasional variances, every course required for the Philosophy major except Logic (200), and Ethics (202) is offered once every two years. Because courses are offered in a two-year rotation, potential majors typically take two Philosophy classes (or more) per semester over four semesters (at a minimum). It is difficult to complete the major in fewer than four semesters and we recommend distributing your courses over at least six semesters. Although the 18 credit hour requirement for the minor could be completed quickly and multiple sections of Introduction to Philosophy (100) are offered every semester, given the demands of other majors, Philosophy minor's are also likely to need to spread their coursework over at least a two year period.
