Institute Meeting #20
The Children's Museum of Indianapolis
Ruth Swetnam also welcomed everyone. She asked that Tom Schroeder and his family be remembered due to the death on Wednesday of Tom's wife, Karen. Ruth complimented Storer Elementary School and Cowan Elementary School on their very successful site reviews. During 2006-07 site reviews will be scheduled for Mitchell, Towne Meadow, and Children's Museum of Indianapolis. The group was reminded that agreement to the partnership includes participating on these site reviews. She also gave everyone a copy of the Ball State University Teachers College Alumni Board Innovative Education Grant application. The yearly report from each PDS is due in Ruth's office by June 1. The report template from last year is still appropriate. Ruth thanked Jeanette Booth and Children's Museum for hosting the meeting.
The theme for the Institute Meeting was "collaboration." To generate ideas for improving the collaboration among PDSs and community partners, Jeanette Booth from Children's Museum led a discussion with the representatives from the Indianapolis area and Chris Hannah from Minnetrista talked with representatives from schools in the Muncie area.
Ruth introduced and thanked the featured workshop presenters from Ball State's Office of Academic Research and Sponsored Programs, Jackie Davis and Marcia DeBoy, and Christi Meredith from The Child Care Collection Resource Center. Jackie, Marcia, and Christi involved the group in "Collaborative Grantsmanship 101." Participants were given basic information about writing grant proposals and where to locate funding sources. Using laptops, individuals were also able to do some searching for grants.
