Payroll
Non-Residents of the USA

Non-Residents of the USA should report to the Payroll office to complete tax withholding forms.

  • An NRA Information Form should be completed by the employee and evaluated by PEB to determine non-resident eligibility for tax purposes.  Your passport, visa information and I-20 are required.

  • A permanent social security number is required as an employee of Ball State University.  If your home country has a treaty agreement with the U.S., you must have a social security number before treaty exemptions can be honored.

  • For additional information, refer to the IRS website http://www.irs.gov

  • You may also contact International Programs for more information on how to apply for a social security number, http://www.bsu.edu/internationaladmit/

Non-Resident employees with non-taxable income will receive a Form 1042S.  Taxable income will be reported on Form W2.  If you have received both taxable and non-taxable income, you will receive both forms.
