Parking Services
Fines and Violations

boot
As an alternative to towing cars, which is more expensive and inconvenient for patrons, Parking Services uses "boots" to immobilize the cars of drivers who have five or more tickets.

When issued a "No Valid Permit" citation, the violator has five busienss days to purchase and display a valid decal.  All other violations must be paid before a permit will be issued.

A late fee will assessed on all unpaid fines that are ten (10) business days old or older.

The person to whom the parking permit is issued will be held responsible for the parking of his or her vehicle , regardless of who may be the operator.  A violation notice will not be excused on the plea that another person was driving the vehicle.

If there is no permit, fines will be assessed to the employee or student who owns the vehicle, or to a student or employee who is a family member of the vehicle's owner. In all other instances the registered owner is the responsible party.

A citation will be issued for violations once every calendar day. Exceptions are timed parking (i.e. meters and loading docks) where a citation may be issued for each violation of the time restriction.

A vehicle will be booted and/or towed if it has accumulated five (5) or more outstanding parking citations. In addition to the fines, there is a $25 fee for the removal of the boot. When a vehicle has been booted for eight (8) hours, with no response from the owner/operator of the vehicle, it will be towed at the owner's/operator's expense.

Exception: Motorcycles and vehicles that cannot be booted will be towed immediately at the owner's/operator's expense.

Vehicle Immobilization Boots
A vehicle will be immobilized with a tire boot and/or towed if it has accumulated five (5) or more outstanding parking citations.  In addition to these fines, there is a $25 fee for the removal of the tire boot. When a vehicle has been booted for eight (8) hours with no response from the owner/operator of the vehicle, it will be towed at the owner's/operator's expense.

Exception:  Motorcycles and any vehicle that cannot be booted will be towed immediately at the owner's/operator's expense.

Towing
As a last resort, a vehicle will be towed without warning at the violator's expense if:

  • a vehicle has five or more outstanding tickets without a response to being booted. Parking fines, towing, and storage charges must be paid before an impounded vehicle can be released.
  • a vehicle has five (5) or more outstanding tickets and cannot be booted (for example, a vehicle with very large tires or a motorcycle).
  • an unauthorized vehicle is parked in a restricted lot.
  • a vehicle is not displaying a current license plate.
  • a vehicle is parked on campus when the permit has been revoked.
  • a vehicle is abandoned or stored on campus for 14 or more days.
  • a vehicle is parked in an area posted for no overnight parking.
