Alpha Seminars provide small groups of new faculty members ("Alphas") with a comfortable environment within which to explore a variety of topics related to teaching, scholarship, university service, settling into a new community, etc. These discussions are facilitated by experienced faculty members who can help you understand these issues within the context of Ball State University and point you to other resources as needed. All new faculty are encouraged to attend.
Each seminar group will meet five times over the course of the Fall 2007 semester, starting in late September. Because group dynamics and interests play important roles in these seminar discussions, participants are asked to commit to attending all meetings of that group; you cannot switch, for example, between Mondays and Wednesdays during the semester. We understand, however, if circumstances arise that require you to miss a meeting.
This year's Alpha Seminars will be offered on the following days and times:
- Mondays, 2:00 - 3:30 p.m. (9/24, 10/8, 10/22, 11/5, 11/19)
- Wednesdays, 11:00 a.m. - 12:30 p.m. (9/26, 10/10, 10/24, 11/7, 11/28)
- Thursdays, 9:30 - 11:00 a.m. (9/27, 10/11, 10/25, 11/8, 11/29)
To register for an Alpha Seminar, please fill out the form below and rank your preferred days/times. In most cases we are able to accommodate your first choice, but sometimes scheduling needs require us to shift participants to their second choices. Please submit your registration by Tuesday, September 18th at 5:00 p.m. We will compile schedules and confirm your registration on September 19th.
